Annelise Chapman
Last update: June 2008
Dr
Annelise Chapman has started her position as research
scientist with Runde Environmental Centre March
1, 2008. She is a benthic marine ecologist who
completed her training and PhD in Germany and
who has been working in Europe and Canada since.
She has field experience from intertidal and subtidal,
rocky shore and soft-sediment coastal environments
in temperate and Arctic regions. As a community
ecologist, her main interests have been in flora-fauna
interactions, specifically in relation to invasive
species and their effects on biodiversity.
Her background includes experimental ecological
work, descriptive techniques (e.g. benthic habitat
mapping using video imagery) and strong taxonomic
knowledge of seaweeds and invertebrates. She is
a research diver, with diving experience mostly
from cold waters.
Dr Chapman has conducted fundamental and applied
research within both public and private sectors,
most recently in affiliation with Dalhousie University
in Canada. She has been a research consultant
for the Canadian government, as well as for environmental
and community groups. Her teaching experience
includes all aspects of ecology and diversity,
especially marine ecology, and ranges from children
and tourist groups to university students. She
is entirely fluent in German and English, has
functional Norwegian, and some Italian and Spanish.
Aside from her professional interest in the
oceans, Lise Chapman spends as much time as possible
near the water. She is excited about her move
to Norway where she will experience a new aspect
of it.
